Description:
This is a Non-Smoking Apartment
Our Saint Simon - St Germain is a lovely two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment superbly located on Paris’ Left Bank in the heart of the chic St Germain des Prés neighborhood (in the 7th on the border of the 6th Arrondissement). This apartment is situated on the 4th floor of an elevator building. The apartment is 800 square feet in size and has a beautiful balcony. The light-filled apartment offers lovely views over neighboring gardens and the gold-domed Les Invalides (Napoleon's Tomb). In the winter months (when the leaves are off the trees) there are views from the balcony of the Eiffel Tower. Nestled in the epi-center of Paris the apartment is on a very small, private street or “Passage” (Passage de la Visitation) ensuring a peaceful and restful retreat from the bustle of city life.
The handsome apartment has a spacious and beautiful living room (with an AC unit) opening onto a balcony. The apartment offers a terrific, fully equipped kitchen that opens onto a charming dining area. There is a lovely master bedroom with a Queen size bed. The second bedroom has a single twin bed. The apartment has 2 full bathrooms.
In the heart of the coveted 7th arrondissement, with its elegant architecture and magnificent ‘hotels particuliers’, this neighbourhood is also unusually well endowed with wonderful boutiques, fine food shops, cafés and restaurants, and, of course, the irrisistable Bon Marché department store, with is renowned basement food hall! Ideally situated for sight-seeing and within a comfortable stroll of the Boulevard St Germain, Rodin Museum, the banks of the Seine, Tuileries Gardens, the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, Napoleon’s tomb and the Invalides Museum, Ile de la Cité, Notre Dame, and not forgetting the Musée Maillol down the street (and the French Prime Minister lives just round the corner !). Three handy metro lines will take you further afield. Location, location, location!
Fantastic Neighborhood Outdoor Market: Marché Raspail
Location: Renne Métro Stop (crossroad of rue des Rennes and Blvd. Raspail)
Tuesday, Friday and Sunday mornings 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Bursting with high-quality epicurean delights, this thrice-weekly market attracts the city's top chefs and discerning foodies! Marché Raspail remains one of the most vibrant open-air food markets in Paris! Like other Paris markets, this one draws a broad cross-section of locals who regularly shop here for their weekly provisions. It has everything from fresh produce to dairy, meats, flowers, and prepared foods. Young children pedal their foot scooters while parents complete their purchases. Some older customers, aided by walking sticks, navigate the well-grooved path to their favorite vendors. There can be some tourists, but make no mistake, this market isn’t a tourist trap. It mostly caters to the appetites and needs of local residents.
Marché Raspail is one of over seventy open-air neighborhood food markets in Paris. Centrally located in the 6th arrondissement along boulevard Raspail, stretching from rue du Cherche-Midi to rue de Rennes, Marché Raspail is open every Tuesday and Friday morning all year long. On Sunday mornings, an organic market – “Marché Biologique Raspail” (or simply “Le Marché Bio”) – can be found in the same location, but with a different set of vendors who specialize in organic items.
At the regular market on Tuesdays and Fridays, one finds several stands selling vegetables and fruits, numerous cheese sellers, fishmongers, butchers, triperies, and more. Olives and nuts come in a variety of flavors and colors. The rôtisserie chicken is especially renowned … as its juices drip upon chunks of potatoes … as are the breads and savory pastries. Monsieur Grémillet sells foie gras in vacuum-packed cans that can be transported home for a taste of Paris well after vacation has ended. For immediate gratification, the food truck Cantine California serves up various options including kale chips.
It’s somewhat misleading to refer to these as “food markets” since the offerings are much broader. In addition to all the delicious foods, one can also find scarves, gloves, leather goods, health and beauty products, jewelry, and even furniture repair. A visit to Marché Raspail can easily be combined with a foray to the nearby iconic gourmet food hall, La Grande Épicerie, or to the Jardin Luxembourg for a perfect picnic!
The ‘Marché Bio’ is on Sunday mornings while the “regular” (non-organic) Marché Raspail is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The nearest Métro stop is Rennes.
Reviews:
Hi Connie,
It is hard to think of any constructive criticism of that wonderful apartment. We were dazzled as Bernard led us through it. We loved the brightness and all the windows and views. Once we learned of the hourly schedule of the Eiffel Tower shows, we enjoyed them the last two nights several times from the balcony under a full moon. We loved the quiet and exclusive-feeling neighborhood as we passed through the big door, away from the noise of the city. Our weather was perfect. No rain and temperatures in the 60s each day. We had had so many amazing meals on our trip before arriving in Paris that we ended up just eating in restaurants three of the five nights. One day we went to the Rue Cler market and decided to buy our dinner there to bring back to the apartment. We enjoyed that evening so much that we cancelled our last night restaurant and did a takeout pizza at Marzo just down the street. We did have a wonderful anniversary seafood dinner with our son and his wife at Gaya, just next door. They brought a cute pair of Paris cookies with lighted candles to celebrate the occasion at the end. We liked La Societe restaurant across from the St Germain de Pres church which you helped reserve for us. We ate a wonderful dinner outside, again with our son and wife on their last night. They were very responsive to our time constraints and the service was excellent.
So thank you for all your great help in making our 50th anniversary trip such a success,
Dick and Linda 2022
